CRU Simon Haddock Release, 18th May 2006
Art, Platters and Hoxton Matters…
If you happen to find yourself at the
White Cube for the Gavin Turk opening next week, do make sure you stop
by at CRU Restaurant and Wine Bar around the corner. On Thursday 25th
May from 6.30 to 10pm, CRU will be hosting a small, intimate event
celebrating the launch of its new exhibition. From next week, CRU will
be showing the work of English artist Simon Haddock
In Haddock's
work, there is the exploration of process and layer. Taking the hard
surfaces such as wood or MDF, and sandwiching them with paint, Haddock
presses layer upon layer before finally grinding back certain sections.
This is achieved through drilling and routing, a process which
ultimately exposes lost, almost forgotten layers and creates an
intriguing and complex final image. Several of the pieces are abstracts
of famous football stadiums, so an added point of interest as we enter
football mania this summer.
Since opening 3 years ago, CRU has
been showing art from local galleries, including work by Eric Butcher,
Steven Walters, Monroe Hodder & Bennett Spencer.
Explains
proprietor Brendan Murdock; “We always wanted CRU to be more than just
a restaurant, and we immediately felt that the strong sense of
community we experienced in Hoxton would allow us to do so. That is why
we feature work from local galleries and in general work closely to
support local businesses and venues – this was the whole idea about our
new online events calendar.”
CRU’s recently revamped website
features an events section, allowing local arts, music, film and
theatre venues to blog their upcoming events for free. The result; a
one-stop-shop to all things Hoxton for residents and visitors alike.
This is furthermore supported by CRU’s monthly newsletters that goes
out to subscribers both here and abroad, highlighting CRU as well as
general Hoxton and Shoreditch events.
We look forward to seeing
you on May 25th to sample our delicious new Summer menu, get in holiday
mood with our new Island wine selection and enjoy the exhibition.
